Delivering accurate, realistic sound, including deep bass, The Cambridge SoundWorks Ensemble IV Home Theater brings the thrill of great surround sound to small rooms. Home Theater magazine says Ensemble IV Home Theater outperforms most subwoofer/satellite systems we've tested -- at half the price of many. In fact, we've heard far more expensive home theater speakers that don't hold a candle to this rig. Ensemble IV Home Theater also recently received a Best Buy from a leading consumer publication. I bought the Ensemble IV for my bedroom sound system after reading the reviews here.

I would like to bring some reason to this review process. These speakers are not good for music listening. There simply is not enough capability from this small, single paper driver to deliver music for a listener, in an enjoyable fashion.

We measured the frequency response of the bass module with the microphone at its port. Its response was even more impressively flat than that of the satellites, varying less than ±1 dB from 65 to 170 Hz. Each satellite speaker is barely large enough to contain a single long-throw 3-inch cone driver whose response extends down to 150 Hz.
The bass module they include only goes to about 50Hz, so if you like movies or music with bass then you'll want a powered sub. Add a $139 Sony WM-40 sub and you should be very happy. Overall, if you are looking for a set of speakers for the office, these are worth considering, but don't pay more tham $50.

I wouldn't rely on the Ensemble's woofer module for home theater use, however, unless I had an extremely small space or an extremely limited budget. The Ensemble IV woofer module has a relatively high crossover frequency to the cube satellites, so it's placement sensitive. I recommend placing it out of sight somewhere along the front soundstage.
These little guys wouldn't cut it in a larger room - and I'm sure there are better speaker systems out there - but for the $$ it can't be beat. The non powered sub would have been better if it came with it's own class D amplifier. Because it is passive you will need more speaker wire. • Front panel read-outs selected by from the rest of the range. If you apply to Ensemble IV because its Most TV broadcasts and almost all place the speaker so that the room subwoofer separates the low-bass a remote control.

It must be said, however, that the bass range is good and the sound pleasingly natural. With these speakers, it's all about your expectations. For their size, I'm impressed with these little speakers. I set them up in my small living room (roughly 10' x 15' and hooked up to an Onkyo DS575x) and they're excellent.
Delivery times may vary, especially during peak periods. Better imaging and clarity than bookshelf speakers with higher price tags. Small satelites can be placed anywhere and hung on a wall Subwoofer is accurate and rich sounding. Some of these other reviews makes me wonder what amplifiers were powering there setup. With a good reciever these things sound amazing.
First of all, it is smaller than the Bose Acoustimass module. Also, the deeper bass is tight and has decent transient response. I have not yet determined whether the surround on the woofer is foam or rubber, but I think it may be foam from what I could determine looking in through the port. The driver's orientation is reversed, in a technique used to minimize the out-of-band noise from a bandpass subwoofer. While the woofer is no slouch, the cube satellite speakers are really the best part of this system.
The shielded satellite cubes enclose 3-inch long-throw drivers with a special circuit to extend high-frequency response. The subwoofer cabinet encloses a 5 3/4-inch woofer in an acoustic suspension cavity, firing into a bandpass filter cavity for improved bass efficiency. These can be great speakers for home theater on a budget or casual music listening, if you are willing to spend the time to put the passive woofer in the right place.

The Ensemble IV Home Theater truly fits into any small room -- and any budget. The spring clips on the speakers are kinda cheesy too, but they're affordable and sound good for a reason. I never had any trouble with these speakers, though I understand Cambridge Soundworks's customer service is fantastic.
If one needs home theater in a smaller room, however, it would be impossible to find a better speaker system than this one. DTT2200's and other 5.1 computer speaker setups. I would, however, reccomend the KLH 9912 instead. There are better values out there if you look around, you will find something that isn't so picky about the placement. I recognize the potential of these little guys, but honestly have mixed feeling about the sound. Unpacking The System As you unpack Ensemble IV, please Ensemble IV examine each speaker unit carefully for signs of shipping damage.
Like I said though, these can be GREAT speakers for the money if you work at it. The satellites are so small, that you can place them in almost any room without changing the character of the room too much, which is cool. The value is great, especially during the annual march madness sales at HIFI.com.
